Intake Process

Step 1: Submit a Surrender Request

 All owners must complete a Surrender Request Form before intake is considered.

This allows us to:

  • Assess urgency 
  • Review health and behavior 
  • Determine if we can safely take in the guinea pig(s) 

Incomplete requests will not be reviewed.

Step 2: Application Review

 Each request is reviewed based on:

  • Urgency of the situation 
  • Health and medical needs 
  • Available foster space 
  • Current rescue capacity 

Priority is given to:

  • Medical cases 
  • Unsafe or emergency situations 
  • Abandonment risk

Step 3: Intake Decision

Step 4: Intake Scheduling

 After review, you will be contacted with one of the following:

  • Accepted for intake 
  • Waitlisted (no immediate space available) 
  • Not accepted (with alternative resources when possible) 

We may request additional information or photos before making a decision.

 If accepted:

  • A drop-off time and location will be scheduled 
  • Owners must bring all available supplies (if possible) 
  • A Surrender / Relinquishment Form must be signed at intake

 Upon arrival, each guinea pig will:

  • Receive a full medical intake check 
  • Be weighed and documented 
  • Be placed into quarantine if necessary 

This ensures the safety of all animals in our care.

 Guinea pigs may be placed in quarantine to:

  • Monitor for illness 
  • Assess behavior 
  • Begin any necessary treatment 

This period helps us prepare them for safe adoption.

 After intake:

  • Medical needs are addressed 
  • Behavior is assessed 
  • Bonding (if needed) is evaluated 
  • Adoption readiness is determined

Important Notes

  • Intake is not first-come, first-served 
  • We cannot accept all surrender requests 
  • Owners are responsible for care until intake is confirmed 
  • Emergency situations will be prioritized when possible
