Adoption Process

 All potential adopters must complete an adoption application.

This includes:

  • Current/past pet ownership 
  • Housing setup plans 
  • Knowledge of guinea pig care 
  • Household information 

Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.

2. Application Review & Screening

 Applications are carefully reviewed to ensure the home meets proper care standards.

We look for:

  • Appropriate cage setup (C&C cages or equivalent) *No Glass Aquariums* 
  • Understanding of diet (unlimited hay, proper pellets, vitamin C) 
  • Willingness to adopt bonded pairs when applicable 
  • Long-term commitment to care 

We may ask follow-up questions or request photos of your setup.

3. Approval & Match

 Approved applicants will be matched with suitable guinea pig(s).

  • Not all applicants will be approved 
  • Not all guinea pigs are the right fit for every home 
  • Priority is based on best match, not first-come

4. Meet & Confirm

 A meet-and-greet (virtual or in-person) may be required.

This allows:

  • Review of temperament and needs 
  • Final questions 
  • Confirmation of readiness

 Before placement:

  • Adoption agreement must be signed 
  • Adoption fee must be paid 

This helps support ongoing rescue efforts and ensures responsible placement.

6. Go Home Day

  Adopters must:

  • Have proper setup ready before pickup 
  • Transport guinea pigs safely (carrier required) 

Care instructions will be provided.

  • Care guidance 
  • Bonding support 
  • Questions after adoption
