North Idaho Guinea Pig Rescue

Emergency Guinea Pig Surrender Information

North Idaho Guinea Pig Rescue understands that urgent situations can arise, particularly concerning emergency surrenders. We do our best to assist in true emergencies, but intake is always based on available space, resources, and safety.

What Qualifies as an Emergency?

Emergency situations may include:

- Immediate risk of abandonment or release

- Unsafe or neglectful living conditions

- Owner hospitalization, crisis, or inability to provide care

- Severe illness or injury without access to care

- Eviction or housing crisis with no alternatives

What Is NOT Considered an Emergency

The following situations are typically not considered emergencies:

- Loss of interest

- Minor inconvenience or time constraints

- Planned moves with advance notice

- Wanting to upgrade or change pets

- Lack of preparation for proper care

These cases may be placed on a waitlist.

Emergency Intake Process

Step 1: Submit a Surrender Request

All emergency surrenders must still complete the Surrender Request Form. Please clearly mark your situation as urgent and include details.

Step 2: Priority Review

Emergency requests are reviewed as quickly as possible based on:

- Severity of the situation

- Risk to the guinea pig(s)

- Current rescue capacity

Step 3: Immediate Response (If Accepted)

If your case is approved as an emergency:

- Intake will be scheduled as soon as possible

- A Relinquishment Form must be signed

- You may be asked to transport the guinea pig(s)

Important Limitations

Emergency intake is not guaranteed. If we are at capacity, we may not be able to take in animals immediately, and owners are responsible for care until intake is confirmed.

If We Cannot Intake Immediately

We may:

- Provide temporary care guidance

- Offer rehoming advice

- Refer you to other resources or rescues

Our Priority

Our goal is to assist true emergencies involving guinea pigs without compromising the care of animals already in our rescue.
